General manager Mickey Loomis told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio recently the Saints have had”some conversations” about a new contract for its star receiver but wouldn’t go into detail.
“We’ve had some conversations, and I enjoy keeping that close to the vest until there is something to report, but lookwe adore what Mike’s done for us,” Loomis said. “He is a fantastic player, among the best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him a Saint for a long time too.”
The Saints go-to getting target, Thomas has become one of the threats in the entire NFL, compiling a least and yards 90 catches all his first few seasons in the league. As Drew Brees’ security blanket, the wideout that is 26-year-old is currently coming from a 125-catch year old.
A second-round pick in 2016, Thomas enters the final season of his rookie contract, place to create $1.148 million — peanuts compared to his values. There is little doubt the Saints would like to keep their No. 1 target paid and happy. But the franchise tag seems likely for the star receiver, if it does not happen within the next few months.
