Liberty Party Takes the Key to Bong County

Bong County has always been a strategic county in Liberia, not only because of its location in the heart of Liberia, but because it is one of the five most populated counties in Liberia (along with Montserrado, Nimba, Bassa, and Lofa). As we get closer to the start of campaign, Bong county has seen a host of visitors from political parties, two of which have hosted programs in the last two months to name a son of Bong County to their ticket. But none of the programs hosted in Bong comes close to the electrifying atmosphere generated by Liberty Party as throngs of people swamped the vehicle procession carrying Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, Political Leader and Harrison Karnwea, Deputy Political Leader (DPL) of Liberty Party.

The Citizens of Bong County pledged their support to Cllr. Brumskine and DPL Karnwea in the upcoming elections. They said that although Liberty Party does not have a son of Bong on the ticket, they are confident in the integrity of both Cllr. Brumskine and DPL Karnwea to lead all of Liberia to a better future. They repeated their disdain for the divisive tribal politics that some candidates have been running and promised to distance themselves from any candidate trying to divide Liberia. In a statement, a supporter of Liberty Party from Bong County said “we don’t care which county you come from, as long as you have the character to lead and integrity to do the right thing, you will get the vote from Bong County. Even if our son or daughter is running and that person does not have the same character as you and your running mate, we will not vote for them. You have shown honesty and integrity when things were good and when they were not good. So we respect that in you Cllr. Brumskine. This is the time for Liberians to come together and elect a leader for all of Liberia. Liberia is not a tribe, it is a country, so we will vote for a president, not a tribal leader.”

Cllr. Brumskine and DPL Karnwea have traversed the country in recent weeks and each have received warm welcome from receptive constituents across the country. Thousands greeted Cllr. Brumskine as he toured Grand Bassa, Rivercess, Margibi and parts of Montserrado Counties. Cllr. Brumskine, fluent in Bassa, was able to connect with the elders and young people, many surprised that he spoke Bassa so fluently. For his part, DPL Karnwea toured almost 50 towns in Nimba, hosting entire meetings in Mano and Gio so the elders and others in the community could fully understand the policies and ideas of Liberty Party.

The support that both leaders have received in other counties was duplicated at this event in Bong, organized under the astute leadership of Emmanuel Lomax, an influential son of Bong County. Mr. Lomax, who recently joined Liberty Party and vowed to deliver Bong county to Liberty Party, was elated that his message and that of Liberty Party resonated with people from the county. He expressed thanks to the men and women of Liberty Party for trusting him with Bong County and for supporting the work in the county.

The program was attended by numerous leaders of Liberty Party, including National Chaiman Ben Sanvee, Campaign Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Musa Bility and Vice Chairman, Political Affairs Darius Dillon. Many observes at the program conceded that indeed Liberty party is well positioned to win  the upcoming elections. “I can’t believe what I am seeing” said a bystander. “They don’t even have a person from Bong on their ticket and they showed up like giants…this means Liberty Party has crossed the rubicon. Others had their program here and they forced people to come and even with all the power and money they have, they did not pull the type of crowd I see here today.” It is those words that continue the narrative that Liberty Party is ready to win this time around.
