Astros vs. Athletics MLB Pick – August 15th
The Houston Astros head after a weekend against the White Sox at Chicago to the Shore.
They won the opener, but faltered at the following two games. They dropped a 4-1 decision and then got to a high-scoring shootout at a 13-9 closing. The second game was an uncharacteristic loss for the Astros, because their throwing got throttled for 13 runs afternoon.
Wade Miley got out of sorts early and continued only 3.1 innings prior to the bullpen took over and took an even worse beating. Ryan Pressly chose the biggest loss, as he was exploited for 4 earned runs in just an inning of work. Despite this rough series, the Astros are in good shape having a 9.5-game lead in the AL West.
The Astros can afford to take a hit in August and cruise into the postseason with the AL West crown ahead. However, they are still competing with the Yankees for seeding. The Yankees are now a couple of games around the Astros, therefore there’s work left to do for Houston in that regard. There’s also the Dodgers who would have homefield edge on these if they were to fulfill in the World Series.
The main goal is under wraps to the Astros, however. They won’t need to play in the Wild Card Game, although the Athletics don’t know whether they’ll be playing in any postseason game. Every game gets more significant than the preceding from now on out.
Mike Fiers, who has been the most underrated pitcher in the majors this season, will be tasked with leading Athletics to a triumph over the Astros on Thursday. Unexpectedly, Aaron Sanchez will be making his third start as a member of the Astros tonight. Head below to our free Astros vs. Athletics pick.

Aaron Sanchez was thrown into a life preserver when the Astros known as the Blue Jays and obtained about the availability of him. Sanchez acquired a transaction to an aggressive team and a club who has been famous for getting the maximum out of the pitchers. Much Justin Verlander has looked better in Houston and this can be later pitching no-hitters plus a Cy Young at Detroit. JV said he learned things he never knew before and it has seemed to help.
In Sanchez’s brief time in Houston so far, he has been great using a 0.82 ERA in two trips. Could it be the Astros’ impact or he’s only finally finding his groove? It may be a bit of both. Sanchez did put together a good outing for the Blue Jays from the Indians two starts before heading to Houston. Overall on the season, Sanchez moves with a 5.60 ERA along with 1.60 WHIP. I really don’t believe he had been as poor as he looked in Toronto to most the year, but I also don’t believe he is as good as we have seen in Houston the last two games.
Sanchez has been wobbly pitching on the street in 2019, since he holds an ERA of both 6.41 and also 1.79 WHIP in 60.1 innings. The Athletics are hitting on .269 together with 6 runs on Sanchez in 52 at-bats. The key for Oakland in this game, however, will be the play of Mike Fiers. Everyone was sleeping this season, but he’s been producing in their rotation.
Fiers has been especially sharp at home, where he has boasted an ERA of 2.54 and also 1.03 WHIP at 78 innings. Note that in ten of the prior eleven excursions, Fiers has enabled 2 or less runs. He hasn’t given up more than 3 runs at first because return on April 20th against the Blue Jays. The’Stros are hitting just .230 from Fiers from 122 at-bats. The oddsmakers are sleeping Fiers this season also. As a home underdog, Fiers is obviously looking.
